What makes a house a home? The physical accommodation is merely a shell, only becoming a home with personal effects and associated memories. When we move house we box up our lives. We leave a place empty for future occupiers to fill, thus allowing a seamless handover.
Not To Go are the words printed on stickers, used by removal companies so they know what to take and what to leave. This sets of images was made in a house that had been occupied by a single family for 45 years. The owners found moving on incredibly hard and left many items behind. Some items were stickered Not To Go, countless more simply abandoned. There was a sense of other lives with glimpses of an unknown family’s history. This work documents the poignancy that the previous owners left through their abandoned belongings.
